On to the next goal.

The Piedmont softball team clinched its second straight district championship Tuesday with a 17-2, five-inning win over Ardmore completed a perfect 12-0 run through 5A-2.

But as coach Keith Coleman points out, 1 district wasn’t the only goal on the list to check off.

“Getting through the district schedule is the first step and it allows you to host the regional,” Coleman said. “We won it last year so back-to-back is great but now we move on and get ready to tune up for the postseason.”

The Wildcats unleashed on Ardmore, scoring their 17 runs on 13 hits, including multi-hit games from Jordan Collins, Jade Rowland, Ellie Griffin and Cozee Clark. Rowland and Giffin each hit home runs as well as one off the bat of Rikki Hadley.

“Offensively we were great,” Coleman said. “We were able to score in a bunch of different ways with timely hits, good base running and taking advantage of some mistakes by our opponent.

“But that was probably the best game we’ve pitched all season as well.”
Chloe Bohuslavicky pitched a complete game, racking up a pair of strikeouts while allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.

“Chloe had command of all of her pitches tonight,” Coleman said. “And she worked ahead which is huge for her. Defensively we played well behind her and made a couple great plays early in the game.  We put it all together a little bit.”

Piedmont still has five games left on the regular season schedule and a tournament this weekend at Northeastern State University. Coleman sees the remaining games as preparation time for his squad.

“We have a couple of weeks left to fine tune and get better,” he said. “Playing well at the end of the year is big for us. Offensively we’re a lot better this year and we can score in different ways. We just have to stay on it defensively and clean it behind Chloe.”

The Wildcats moved to 23-3 overall and 12-0 in district after the win. They travel to Tahlequah this weekend for the NSU Tournament.
